Eye Saver

User manual

Eye Saver reminds you to take short breaks from the screen so your eyes can rest. It is inspired by the 20-20-20 idea: every twenty minutes, look for about 20 seconds at something roughly 20 feet (6 meters) away.

1. What the app does

A main countdown tracks time until the next break. When it fires, what you see depends on whether the phone is locked:

  • Locked — a full-screen break timer opens so you can rest your eyes.
  • Unlocked — you get a toast and a notification. Tap the notification to open the break timer.

Default period is 20 minutes. Default break length is 30 seconds. You can change both in Settings.

2. First launch

The first time you open Eye Saver you see a short Welcome screen. Tap Continue to go to the main screen.

3. Modes

On the main screen, tap the mode control to cycle:

  • Disabled — reminders are off. The play button is hidden.
  • Free Run — the timer runs whenever you turn it on, with no work-hours window.
  • Schedule — reminders only during the work hours, weekdays, and lunch rules you set.

4. Play and Pause

In Free Run, and in Schedule while you are inside the work window, use the main on/off (play/pause) control:

  • On — the next break is scheduled and the countdown is shown.
  • Off — the line may show TIMER DISABLED and no break will fire until you turn it on again.

Outside the schedule window the play button is hidden. The app can still arm the next valid slot; the line may show when the next run starts.

Use the mute control on the main screen to silence sound without turning reminders off.

5. When a break starts

Device locked

The full-screen timer titled Relax your eyes appears. When the break finishes you see Break finished. On the lock screen that finished view closes after a few seconds so you return to the lock screen.

Device unlocked

You hear the alert (unless muted), see a toast, and get a notification titled Tap to open timer with the text Eye break — rest your eyes. Tap the notification body to open the break timer. The timer does not open by itself while the device is unlocked.

6. Skip and Skip and stop

  • Skip — ends only the current break. The reminder schedule keeps running. Swiping the notification away is also Skip.
  • Skip and stop — ends the current break and turns reminders off completely (same idea as pausing the app on the main screen).

After a break ends or is skipped, Eye Saver break notifications are cleared from the tray.

7. Settings

Open Settings from the main screen. You can change:

  • Timer period — 15 to 45 minutes (how long until the next break).
  • Break duration — 15 seconds to 2 minutes.
  • Notifications — notification on/off, ringtone (or Silent), vibrate.
  • Schedule — work time, lunchtime, week days.
  • Remove ads — optional Google Play subscription (see below).

8. Schedule

When the mode is Schedule:

  • Set Work Time start and end. The end cannot be earlier than the start.
  • Optionally enable Use Lunchtime and set a lunch window when reminders should not fire.
  • Choose Week Days (Mon–Sun) when the schedule is active.

9. Ads and removing ads

The free version shows a small banner on several screens and an occasional full-screen ad (not during an active break).

To remove ads, tap the star on the main screen or open Settings → Remove ads. You can subscribe for one month or six months through Google Play. Prices are shown by Play in your currency.

Cancel or change the plan in Google Play subscriptions. Uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription. When the subscription ends, ads come back.

10. Permissions

Android may ask for:

  • Notifications — so you can see break reminders.
  • Exact alarms — so the next break can fire on time.
  • Full-screen intent — so the break timer can appear when the phone is locked.

If a permission is denied, reminders may be late, silent, or missing.
